“I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you.” 1 Kings 3:12
As Solomon was known for having greater wisdom than any man who walked this earth, he still was a man and had limits to the extent of the wisdom God gave him. God alone is the giver of all wisdom because He is the one who brought all things into existence. It would be foolish for us, the created, to believe that we know more than the Creator.
Having wisdom, understanding, and a discerning heart though is still attainable, at even a greater degree than Solomon had, to those who trust in Jesus as their Savior. Hear what Colossians 2:2-3 says:
“...[you can attain] all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
And in James we are instructed that if we want wisdom from God we need only ask.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5
So, where do we find God's wisdom. We find it in the bible, as 2 Timothy 3:15-17 says:
“...the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
But the world around us says we are foolish to believe that God's word points to all the wisdom we need. Thankfully, the bible also provides us the reassurance that those who do not trust in God and His word are the foolish ones because their human wisdom has blinded them from the real truth of this world. See what these two verses have to say in this respect:
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, 'He catches the wise in their own craftiness'” 1 Corinthians 3:19
“Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?” 1 Corinthians 1:20
I am so thankful God opened my eyes to His truth and saved me from my foolish ways. I know I make the wisest decisions when I let God teach me and show me His view of my circumstances. When all things come to an end in this world, the real wisdom of the world will be revealed and there will be no choice but to bow before the throne of the One who alone is “wise”.
“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen” 1 Timothy 1:17
