“For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin.” Hebrews 12:3-4
When we oppose sin we are to expect to come under fire, and at times to the greatest degree that even our life here on earth may be threatened. But, dwelling on the fact that you are being persecuted for what is right takes your eyes off of Jesus. The greater truth that Hebrews 12 holds for those who are persecuted for their faith and desire to follow the ways of the Lord over the ways of man is that focusing on Jesus during those times instead of the troubles which are arising around you is where you will be encouraged and strengthened.
Discouragement comes when we take our eyes off of Jesus and we start to reason in our own mind the things that have happened in our life, the choices we have made, the hurts others have caused, and the circumstances which have made us make a stand for the One we say is our Lord and our God. Jesus knows that there will be troubles of all kinds but He offers us the greatest news along with His statement predicting the pain and sorrow His followers would face until He makes His triumphant return.
He has overcome the world! That focus engrained and placed before our eyes, so that the troubles of the world are only shadows in the background, is essential in keeping us from “becom[ing] weary and discouraged.” So, to lend a helping hand to anyone who may be facing a difficulty and has started to lose sight of Jesus in their circumstances, I have added a video below which lists out some of the names of Jesus with scripture references. If you would like to probe into more of the names of Jesus to keep your focus even more greatly fixed, a great site that lists the names of Jesus and applicable scripture references can be found by clicking on this link: Names of Jesus
